The Ivy Plus Libraries Confederation (IPLC), a partnership of 13 academic research libraries, are pleased to announce the appointment of three new staff in FY22 in support of the partnership’s BorrowDirect and Web Collection programs:
- James Robinson is the BorrowDirect Program Manager for the Ivy Plus Libraries Confederation. James partners with library staff and service providers to manage, support, and improve the BorrowDirect resource sharing service. James comes to IPLC from the Partnership for Academic Library Collaboration & Innovation (PALCI), where he oversaw member support initiatives and organized and supported PALCI’s EZBorrow resource sharing service and practitioner community. James has spent the last seven years building, managing, and growing resource sharing tools, programs, and communities for academic libraries and consortia. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Ball State University and his Master of Library and Information Science from San Diego State University.
- Miranda Siler is the new IPLC Web Collection Librarian and in this role she performs the operational work of maintaining and growing IPLC’s existing thematic web collections and building new web collections while collaborating with IPLC stakeholders to help coordinate this cooperative Program. Miranda previously worked as a Web Archiving Fellow at the Frick Art Reference Library, a Research Assistant at the Semantic Lab at the Pratt Institute, an Archives Graduate Assistant at the Pratt Institute Archives, and as a Front Office Manager at the Practice for Architecture and Urbanism. In May 2022 Miranda will receive both her M.S. in Library and Information Science and her M.A. in History of Art and Design from the Pratt Institute, and she has a B.A. in Art History and Religion from Tufts University.
- Emily Uruchima is the new Bibliographic Assistant for IPLC where she will provide critical support for the Program including performing quality assessment of website captures and editing metadata for seed websites. Emily previously worked as a Collections Assistant for New York University Libraries, a Research Associate for Curriculum Development at the New York Public Library, and as a Project Coordinator for the Kichwa Hatari, a collective dedicated to revitalizing Kichwa culture and language. Emily has an M.A. in Latin American and Caribbean Studies and a B.A. in Social and Cultural Analysis with focus on Native American and Indigenous Studies, both from New York University.
The BorrowDirect Program Manager is administratively based at Princeton University Library and the Web Collection Librarian and Bibliographic Assistant are based at Columbia University Libraries.
Ivy Plus Libraries Confederation’s flagship program, BorrowDirect, enables faculty, students, and researchers at participating libraries to discover, request, and rapidly receive physical materials from 13 of the world’s premier library collections. Founded in 1999 by Columbia University Libraries, University of Pennsylvania Libraries, and Yale University Library, the program grew to include the libraries of Brown University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Duke University, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Princeton University, Stanford University, and the University of Chicago. Drawing on a collective collection of over 90 million items; BorrowDirect libraries leverage automated workflows, expedited delivery, and a deep commitment to extraordinary user service.
The IPLC Web Collection Program reaches across institutional lines and bolsters collaborative collection building and thinking through web archiving. The Confederation’s thematic collections are built from freely available websites and exclude content behind logins or paywalls. Web archives preserve vulnerable information that may disappear from the live web and capture the ways in which selected websites have evolved over time.
