Purpose

The IPLC Scholarly Communications Group (SCG) aims to leverage IPLC’s unique position to effect positive change in the scholarly communication ecosystem and to facilitate the transition to a worldwide, sustainable system of open and equitable access to scholarship in its many forms. With a view to strengthening IPLC’s leadership role in the domain of scholarly communications, the SCG coordinates discussion and projects in support of open scholarship.

Governance

The SCG is comprised of representatives from the IPLC member institutions. As scholarly communications topics span across different library operational activities, each institution determines the number of its representative. The SCG chair or co-chairs can be self-nominated or nominated by the members. There is no limitation on the terms of service for the chair/co-chairs. They schedule meetings, set agendas, facilitate discussion and decision-making, and take and distribute meeting notes. All SCG documents are archived on the IPLC Google drive. Additionally, an SCG representative serves on an annual basis as the liaison on the IPLC Program Steering Group.
